Verizon colleague Mike McKeehan played a role in helping put these together, and asked me to share this note below:
This morning I'm at the U.S. Capitol for the release of the PointSmartClickSafe task force recommendations for best practices for child online safety. The report (actually a cool series of web pages) can be found here http://www.pointsmartreport.org/
I believe this report should be of significant interest to parents, educators, and legislators for a number of reasons:
- A cross-industry team, some of whom compete fiercely in the broadband marketplace, recognized that making the internet a safer place is good for everyone -- kids and families, advertisers, content publishers, and everyone else involved in the internet ecosystem.
- The level of collegiality on the task force fostered an environment where everyone felt comfortable contributing to the discussion, enabling us to share best practices and develop a practical, implementable set of recommendations.
- We both applaud the task force's recommendations and are proud that Verizon has been recognized for its global leadership in this area.To see what we've done, go to http://www.verizonnationalmedia.com/familycenter/ .
- Finally, I hope companies that were not members of this task force will make use of the recommendations in our report and incorporate online safety into their corporate responsiblity activity.
