ETFs and Accidental Mobile Web Access: Our FCC Letter

Jim Gerace posted in Policy PolicyBlog Wireless  on December 23, 2009, 03:34 PM EST

We recently responded to the Federal Communications Commission to their questions about our changes to early termination fees (ETFs) for smartphones, and about the way we handle situations where customers accidentally access the mobile web from their Verizon Wireless cellphones.

Bottom line: we believe subsidized mobile broadband devices, which come with ETFs, provide many people with an affordable choice of getting connected to the Web in ways they might not otherwise be able to afford.  If you accidentally hit keys that result in landing on the mobile web homepage, then click back out of it, you're not charged a dime (much less $1.99).

I am thinking of load of crap. There should be a NO COST way of disabling web browsing on your phone so even if you leave a web browser open by accdent. (Maybe not even knowing you have a web browser like my mother.) That I should not have to call support spend time explaining what happend and just get sent to a page maybe offering mobile web ..
