Verizon Wireless filed comments late Friday (7/30/10) in the FCC's proceeding seeking information on the state of competition in the wireless industry.
Needless to say, the picture is one of healthy competition. The complex, interconnected mobile marketplace is more competitive and delivers more benefits for consumers than ever before. New businesses are bringing even more vigorous competition to all levels of the wireless industry. And they are bringing more choices to consumers - as well as more value for the dollar. This includes choice among network providers, wireless devices, the operating systems those devices run on, and the content and applications consumers want to download and use.
Mobile service providers – and the many companies that form the input and downstream segments of the wireless industry – continue to invest, innovate and serve American consumers in world-leading ways. Competition is causing, and benefiting from, this investment and innovation.
This market – highly dynamic, constantly evolving, and consumer-focused – undoubtedly is “effectively competitive."
