With so many people traveling overseas these day, for both business and pleasure, my Verizon colleague here in DC Ian Dillner points out these useful resources.
As we approach the peak of summer vacation season and Americans pack their bags for exciting trips around the globe, we applaud the FCC for informing consumers about wireless use when travelling abroad. The FCC has developed a useful website and outreach materials for travelers that compiles basic resources and suggestions for ways consumers can keep in touch while outside of the US and not face unexpected charges on their wireless bills. The FCC’s tip sheet, for example, provides a list of common sense steps consumers should consider before using their mobile devices overseas.
Verizon Wireless encourages its customers that are interested in taking their favorite devices with them when they travel outside of the U.S. to review international calling information at www.verizonwireless.com/global and to contact a customer service representative at 1-800-922-0204 (or *611 from your Verizon Wireless handset) if they have any questions. Whether you are going on a cruise or travelling abroad elsewhere, international roaming rates for voice and text as well as data will apply that are in addition to your monthly bill – rates and coverage vary by destination. Verizon Wireless also provides a number of tools and suggestions for monitoring usage and avoiding any unintended usage, such as turning off your data roaming feature and using Wi-Fi connections. The video below provides some helpful tips to keep in mind before and during your international trip, allowing you to enjoy yourself while avoiding unforeseen expenses. Bon voyage!
