A Brouhaha has consumed some over the Verizon On-Line Acceptable Use Policy. For the record, this is language that’s been in our Acceptable Use Policy for nearly a decade. We’re not aware that this provision has ever been invoked for any reason. The provision is meant to cover clearly illegal acts that would include things such as impersonating Verizon to conduct phishing scams or to sell services using our name, or the intentional spreading inaccurate information that significantly harms Verizon. If you browse any public forum such as Broadbandreports.com and others (including on our o wn PolicyBlog), it’s obvious that we do not disconnect the service of people who criticize us or our services.

I recently purchased FIOS but chose not to agree to a contractual period. I paid extra to have FIOS installed and paid extra every month because I chose not to have a contract. So what does Verizon do...they charge me premium prices for each service and refuse to provide me a "package" price because I don't have a contract. I paid close to $200 per month for Internet and TV. As far as I'm concerned this is a terrible business practice and should be revoked immediately. I chose to cancel my services with Verizon after only 2 months and will contract Comcast to provide the same services for one third the cost. Dissatisfied with Verizon

This along with you selling my Caller Profile- You must not want loyal customers. Your overpriced EVDO and your *** choices for phones means the you are barely a phone company, more accurately you are just harvesting cash from customer wallets. Give us choice and respect our privacy.

John. It's become clear that Verizon is a bad steward of free speech. The fact that my comment here will be moderated is yet further evidence of that. My question for you is this: If a phone company can't police what its customers say on a phone call, then why should it be able to police what they say in a text message, an e-mail, a blog or anywhere else? Verizon's terms of service agreements give it ultimate authority over speech on most all of its digital media. Shouldn't free speech -- everywhere -- be protected by law?
