Comcast’s CEO announced today that they will offer 100mbs speed bursts over their soon-to-be-deployed distribution channel, DOCSIS 3.0.
As Ars notes in above link, this is playing catch-up with FiOS, which currently provides many customers with 50mbs broadband. What Ars doesn’t say, Gizmodo did last year. As Gizmodo reported, Verizon is ready to roll upgrades that provide 400mbs peak and 200mbs sustained over our next generation network, G-PON.
“Nice, but when is G-PON coming,” you ask?
Try now.
But our current FiOS network is ready to handle 100mbs, as seen in this employee’s home. Not to mention the symmetrical broadband we offer today to all our customers.
Chest-thumping aside, the real winner here is the consumer, who, because of competition, is seeing all broadband boats lifted.
