I'd like to be clear about the need for a STB. My understanding is that with a HDTV with QAM and no STB, you get channels 1-49 and local HD stations in the 800's? To confirm, that would mean channels like CNN, CNBC and the Food Channel (SD) would only be available with a STB? If so, I don't find your packaging compelling due to the bad economics (i.e., the need for many STB's at $5.00/mo). With Comcast Basic Svc, I get all SD and HD that is not "premium"/encrypted. Why would you encrypt shows like CNN? Please steer me straight if I have things mixed up. Thanks, Jim

Aww, to bad I had to cancel your service because your billing department is a joke. Coincidentally my free TV hinged on you guys getting my services bundled.

Actually, I am still waiting for mine when it was your mistake in the first place. My name is already on the list and has been since February when we got connected with you. We requested an HD service, you guys messed up, and now we are STILL WAITING for it. I have many many contacts, am an telecommunications and contract attorney, and many of my professional colleagues are thinking of upgrading - if you do not come out with an HD box soon, I will NOT recommend Verizon FIOS. I, too, like the rest, are getting the run around and yet, it is YOUR fault that this mistake happened in the first place. In addition, I still haven't received my "gift." What is going on?

Any plans for Verizon FIOS to work with one or more consumer electronics companies on some Tru2Way (http://www.tru2way.com/) devices (TVs, STBs, DVRs, etc.)? As a happy TivoHD user with FIOS service (utilizing the all-but-abandoned CableCard technology rather than the apparently hard-to-find HD boxes), I am still yearning for the day when I can have a small TV in my kitchen that receives all of my programming, and doesn't require an ugly STB to do so. Eric, please create a blog entry with respect to this subject so we can undrstand Verizon's plans in this area. Thanks. Regards, Bill

What's up Eric? You started this blog back in March. No update? Are you reading this? Sort of a common theme....misleading or NO communication!! How about giving us the real truth?

Well I find it funny that they didn't post my last entry eventhough I edited it but I was P.O.ed. Anyway, I am in the Philly area and they DO have boxes, don't listen to them. When I ordered mine they offered SD boxes for free for four months "UNTIL HD boxes were available" (remember those words). I had mine installed on 3/10 and later found out that people after me were getting their HD box. After numerous aggrevating calls and being told that "well your getting boxes for free until HD boxes are available" I stopped them mid-sentence and explained to them that was the problem because I knew and they knew that HD boxes were available because of the fact that the people near me were getting their HD boxes after me. I told them that they were breaching their end of the agreement since they had HD boxes available but I hadn't gotten mine yet. I told them that if someone wasn't out to my house on 4/8 (when my friend was getting his HD DVR that was ordered after me) with a HD DVR they can come for their equipment. They had to get an override code to bump up my order then two days later a message was left that I was getting it on 4/23, had to call once again and remind them that if someone wasn't out the next day as was arraigned they could come for their equipment. I still didn't believe them until the guy showed up on 4/8. I don't know if this would be applicable in areas other than the Philly, Pa area but I hope it helps.

Why can't you tell us the truth? Or better yet communicate the truth to the customer service agents and to your customers. Every time I call in to your csa people tell me a different story about when I will receive my HD box. Today they told me not to call back for another 2 weeks and if I have a complaint to write a letter to corporate--which I am sure is a waste of time. My excitement for FIOS has turned to bitter disappointment. The lack of communication and service about this issue by your company is truly sad.

It is April 10, 2008. I called for an HD set top box for my newly purchased HD TV. They said I'd have to call again to see if the HD set tops are in. They are not even taking a person's name to pre-order. This means that although I called this week, no one is taking note or keeping track of who made a request first or in what order. If someone calls next week, and I forget to call and new set tops come in, that person will get it before me--that is if anyone gets it....

FiOS was installed in my home in mid-March 2008. When I ordered the service a couple of weeks prior to that, the telephone sales rep did not bother to inform me that HD boxes were backordered, despite the fact that I ordered two of them at the time. On installation day, the tech arrived with two SD boxes and informed my wife that we wouldn't get HD boxes until the first week of April. I later contacted Verizon to complain and after haggling my way through the voice menus and two CSR's (a significant expenditure of my valuable time), a supervisor promised that I would have two HD boxes in early April and that she would personally contact me prior to that to let me know that they were on their way. Predictably, it is now April 9th and I have received no boxes and no further information from Verizon. I called Verizon today and they refused to even give me an estimated date when I could expect them to fulfill their end of our agreement by providing me with the hardware that was promised. If I don't receive satisfaction very shortly, I intend to cancel my services (phone/TV/Internet) and pay nothing. As an attorney, I am well-versed in contract law. Verizon is quite simply in breach here.

Why are they filling NEW orders before back filling the people on the wait list? They told me the HD STB will be sent out mid-March when I signed up but today (4/9/2008) they say they have no idea when it'll be available. Isn't there some law against false advertising? Is there a lawyer in the house? I hear a class-action coming.

When I initially ordered with Verizon, they told me March for the HD boxes. Now it is April and I am hearing even longer. Way to manage a business and lying to customers.

Yeah real nice treatment of existing customers. Just got the service in January and wanted to upgrade a standard box to HD. Mid March is what I was told and now I am being told end of April. If my HD box is not is not ready soon, I will also be canceling my service. I will take up cable on their offer to pay the cancellation fee. Horrible treatment and slow response from customer service.

I have called in 2 times and still I'm told no HDboxes, this time the lady did take my name, so they can call me when 2 boxes are available, I've had service since the week they said they had no HD boxes but luckily the install tech had a HD DVR so I got one and a cablecard until boxes become available. now if you can only fix the OVER compression blocks on the screen and horizontal lines on peoples faces all will be ok. Dishnetwok did not have this happening!

I want to order an HD Set top box and Verizon wont even take my order. They told me I have to wait until the end of the month to order. I think this if the worst customer service I ever experienced. They are offering new customers the boxes, but forgetting about the customers they already have. Thanks Verizon. I will remember how you treated me when my contract is up in two years.

Eric, you neglected to say anything about us poor suckers who had SD boxes originally but want to upgrade? Sounds like maybe months for that? First they were going to be here in March, now April. As for me, if not by April, I'm canceling and I will demand that I not be charged the cancellation fee.

My box reboots at least daily. And wait until you get corrupt data in a recorded program.....its nearly impossible to delete the program without the box rebooting several times. I too wish that they would get away from the Motorola box.

I have had Fios since it was originally offered in my area. The only thing I found disappointing is the DVR. The Motorola product is simply primitive and limited. The V2 software only made things worse. I switched from DISH network when Fios became available, since I needed the high speed internet anyway (and the only other option was cable). The DISH DVR was far easier to use and more reliable. I can barely go a day without the Motorola box rebooting itself, and I am on my third box. I had the DISH DVR for two years with no problems at all. Please consider another source for DVR offerings. I understand Verizon had to take back the software development from Microsoft in the beginning of FIOS TV, how about taking the DVR away from Motorola? What about giving the customers a choice, and let the people vote with their wallets?

New HD set top boxes may have come in for you, but I called today to add two HD boxes for my new HDTVs and they wouldn't even take my order. Told me to call back in three weeks. This is in the Dallas, TX (Rowlett) area. I spent almost an hour trying to get past the "automated lady" before I got a real human. I either got put into a loop or disconnected at least 4 or 5 times. This is true every time I call Verizon - a most frustrating experience for such an outstanding product.

Hmmm then why is it that when you call in they tell you none are available and expect an 8 - 10 week wait?
