Let’s try something new:

I’ve met scores of interesting people doing innovative things here at Verizon.  Some are known within small niches, others maybe even wider -- but none get exposure that they ought.

They are not the nameplates of Verizon, but nonetheless they are our lifeblood.

So, I’d like to use this blog to try a way to give those who are interested a chance to hear their voice, participate in a discussion, see what is going on in some of the most innovative corners of Verizon.

Next Friday, I’ll conduct and post a conversation with one of the behind the scenes brains here at Verizon.  Our first victim candidate is Brian Whitton, executive director of access network design and integration for Verizon.

Brian’s title is just a formality -- he’s the guy who knows about speed, what it means for the end user, and the innovations we’re deploying right now that make our fiber optic broadband to homes the autobahn of the Internet

I’m hoping that you, the readers, can ask all or most of the questions.  Send questions you’d like Brian to answer to john.s.czwartacki(at)verizon.com by THURSDAY MARCH 22 AT NOON and I’ll compile them for a Q and A conversation with Brian.  I hope to post shortly thereafter.

I have no idea how many questions I’ll get or where they will take us, but to keep it as reader-friendly and real as possible, I’ll weed out redundancy and questions outside of the subject and keep this focused on his expertise.

The finished product I hope will provide a useful glimpse into the FiOS future and the mind of a subject matter expert never exposed in this way.

If this works, and/or offers lessons to do it better, I’ll slap a catchy title on the effort (“Conversations with…”) and recruit others whose innovative thinking and expertise would hold your interest.

Anyway, here’s your chance to ask an expert about G-PON, MoCA, and how Verizon hopes to transform the customer experience with the fiber we’re placing all the way into people’s homes.

Get your questions for Brian in to me by NOON ON THUIRSDAY and let’s start a new chapter in the (short) life of this blog.

So our experiment starts with just a text Q&A but I’d hope -- if this works -- we could do this as a podcast or video in the future. For now, I’ll K.I.S.S.
